CrossFit, what a sport, what a community. _ There was a Tweet that scrolled past last night durning the final event that said something about CrossFit being the only sport where you want everyone to win. _ That’s powerful. _ It became more powerful the longer I thought about it. So much so that @soulsean and I were still talking about that simple line hours later. _ It’s true. _ In what other sport do the first athletes to finish become the biggest cheerleaders for the last? _ In what other sport do the best in the world, at the end of the season and with everything on the line, go out of their way to help their competition find more success? _ In what other sport does the crowd cheer louder for the athlete still fighting to finish, with both parties knowing well that they won’t, than they did for the athlete that finished first? _ sonder – n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own _ I had a sonder, a realization that in our unique individual journeys and lives, CrossFit has changed all of us in similar ways. _ Across our vast differences in age, gender, income, education, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, political affiliation, or location, we’ve found the similarities that matter more. From the fittest on Earth to the newest athlete at an affiliate choosing to identify as a “CrossFitter,” we are bonded by shared suffering in the pursuit of being better humans. We might not all know each other, but we are connected, forever transformed by the same thing, in many of the same ways. This is our sport, our community, our lifestyle.
